In an ongoing effort to provide quality wireless service, Verizon Wireless has identified your community as one that will benefit from improved network coverage. Verizon Wireless and Milestone Communications have filed an application for a wireless telecommunications facility at Shady Side Elementary School, addressed 4859 Atwell Road, Shady Side, Maryland 20764. The proposal is for a 114 foot monopole and will include ground equipment required to operate the facility. This equipment will be located at the base of the structure in a secure fenced area.

UPDATE: The AACPS BOE reviewed the meeting outcome summary and final application at the School Board meeting held on Wednesday, September 6th at the Dr. Carol S. UPDATE: After the September BoE meeting, the project site was surveyed for preparation of engineering drawings and inspected as part of regulatory and field assessments. Permit applications were filed with the County in early February and are currently under review.

UPDATE : The AACPS Board of Education voted to “pause” any further action on the project in December 2018. In January 2020, the Board resolved to ask the County Executive to explore alternatives sites for the proposed cell tower. The Board is scheduled to to review information on the results of the County’s investigation of alternative sites at its May 20th meeting. The agenda and information to be reviewed by the Board are available via the ACCPS-affiliated Board Docs website. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the meeting will be held virtually – public comment can be submitted online until noon on May 20. More information on how to submit public comment can be found here.
